BHS-Annaul Prize Day

The ultimate trophy in the world is that of a good human being who could bring cheer, love and hope into the lives of others and build India of our dreams, said Rev Dr Valson Thampu, Principal, St Stephen's College, New Delhi, at the Annual Prize Day function of the Boys' High School (BHS) and College Allahabad on Nov 17 2007.

Addressing the jampacked gathering as chief guest, Dr Valson Thampu said that it was the prime duty of parents to ensure that their child grew in a conducive environment in the right perspective. Winning of trophies and certificates would be meaningless if they fail to develop human virtues, he remarked.

While congratulating the prize-winners, he encouraged those who had failed to make their mark. He added that in every child lay dormant talents, and if he was not recognized today, he would surely be recognized one day.

Smiles galore brightened the faces of nearly 270 students of class I to XII as they were awarded prizes for excellence in academic and non- academic spheres. But, finally, it was the Yellow House which stole a march on all them by walking away with the most prestigious Cock House Shield.

Welcoming the chief guest, the Principal, Mr. C V Innes said that it was our experience that while children achieved more mastery over academics and sports, they seemed to have less and less self-control, self-confidence and emotional stamina. There was an acute lack of ability to deal with personal problems, disappointments and setbacks. The need of the hour is that all parents, teachers and adults that influence young minds and lives must resolve to put emotional needs of children as top priority area of work and commitment, he stressed.

Speaking on this occasion, the Bishop of Lucknow, Church of North India, Rt Rev AR Stephen wished the prize-winners a very purposeful and great future. Earlier, the chief guest inspected an impressive ceremonial drill presented on the BHS ground by the NCC cadets. The function began with a prayer by the Presbyter of All Saints' Cathedral, Rev G Daud.
