THE year 2006-07 was the one year I will always cherish in my life. As a sports captain, I had lot of responsibilities on me, but with God’s blessings and the team efforts of my dear colleagues, the year turned out to be successful. Being a sports captain is a great honour, bu being he sports captain of a great institution, like BHS is like being on top of the world, because BHS has produced some great personalities. What education is to the mind, sports is to the body. Whether is is basketball, football, cricket, NCC, athletics, boxing or swimming, you will always find BHS boys giving their best performances keeping the college flag flying high where ever they go. The fist sporting event of the year was badminton, which saw more than 80 shuttlers baltling of the court to emerge as the ‘best shuttler of the year’. However, in the end, it was Amit Kr Chaudhary of the Yellow House who emerged victorious in both th single and doubles categories. The performance of Nikhil, Nitish Agarwal, Alok, Mukul and Amit Chaudhwry on the badminton court was a treat to watch. After the badminton tournament, the basketball season started with the Inter-House matches, which saw the victory of the Yellow House. The outstanding players were Mudit Srivastava, Prashant Kumar, Varun Handa, Arjun, Raman Bhatia and Mukul Kumar. Varun Handa was selected as the captain of Allahabad basketball team. Mudit Srivastava and Prashant Kumar were also selected to represent the state team. Ahmed Danyal, Shashank Kumar and Shailendra Nath Singh were selected for ICSE Allahabad team and later in the national team. Anubhav, Aqib, Utkarsh Gupta, Aditya, Utkarsh Srivastava and Mohd Sana of junior section, were selected for the mini-state championship. The soccer season stated with the Inter-House matches, in which the Blue House won, but the Yellow House emerged as the overall champion. Players who exhibited excellent footwrok and showed their talents on the field were Amit Kumar Chaudhary, Arjun, Alok, Raman, Ishan, Shivam & Rohit. On September 15, we witnessed a friendly match between various school teams at St Joseph, where BHS emerged as runners-up. Some of the outstanding players were Amit, Alok, Ishan and Antriksh & Edward. As the year progressed, we started preparing for Alfresco-2006, the cultural extravaganza at BHS, in which St Fidelis College of Lucknow, St John’s Academy, Army School, Crosswaithe College, Girls High School, and Holy Trinity School paticipated. Apart from all cultural events, basketball, football and swimming competition were also held, and in all the hee games, BHS team emerged as the champions. Some of he outstanding players were Mudit Srivastava, Ahmed Danyal and Prashant Kumar in basketball, Ishan, Amit Chaudhary, Arjun in football and Shaun, Shashank and Mudit Chitransh in swimming. Then came the big day the Sports Day. From the very beginning, the Yellow House maintained its lead, with the Ist prize for the march past. But as the progressed, the competition grow keener and tougher between the Yellow and Blue house. At the end, the Yellow House excelled over the Blue House by taking lead of more than 200 points. Ankit John, Amit Kr Choudhary and Shivam Showed their supremacy on the Sports Day and made their House win. The culmination of the Sports Day was marked with beating the retreat by all the Houses. On the Founder’s Day too, the Green House won accolades by winning the best marching squad cake. The year rolled towards its end with the gentlemen’s game, cricket. Here the Yellow House showed its mettle and emerged the winner with Arjun Menon being the best player. The Blue House bagged the runner-up position. Our school cricket team, was invited by the Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, to participate in the Champions Trophy, where BHS team performed very well and gagged the second position. Some of the outstanding players were Vishal Gupta (captain), Arjun Menon, Shivanshu, Ankit John, Zevio Raudrigues and Syed Sammar Rizvi. BHS team also took part in the Champions Trophy organised by Madan Mohan Malaviya Stadium, Allahabad, in which our boys showed their supremacy and defeated Bishop Johnson School& College very easily. There, BHS boys stood third, under the captaincy of Vishal Gupta. Players who showed their talents on the field were Arjun Menon, Zevio, Shivanshu, Ankit John, Sammar Abbas, Abhishek Ojha and Amit. In all, the year proved to be an amazing one and taught us a lot in terms of discipline and personality development, and we owe it all to the teachers and to our Alma Mater, always our strength and inspiration. —Varun Handa
