Gala Display (Sports Day 2011) PDF Print E-mail

A scintillating `Gala Display’ of field events of three schools namely, Boys’ High School (BHS) and College, its annexe Holy Trinity School (HTS) and Girls’ High School (GHS) and College was held at the sprawling BHS ground to mark the Sesquicentennial Celebration (150 years) on Sunday. Nearly, 6000 students of the aforesaid institutions took part in the display which included various drills and pyramids. Lieutenant General (Retd) Rana SK Kapur, PVSM AVSM, SM VSM of the Corps of Engineers was the chief guest on this occasion.

 

 



The function commenced with a colourful March Past by all the four Houses namely, St Andrews (Blue) House, St Patricks (Green) House, St Georges (Red) House and St Peters (Yellow) House. The Girls’ High School squad was led by Headgirl, Sahar Sayeed followed by the HTS squad by School Captain, Emaad Uddin and behind them was BHS squad led by College Captain, Shubham Shukla marching impressive to the tunes of the Army Band. The highlight of the march past was the Alumni Squad led by Colonel (Dr) L Ansari of the Army Medical Core. It was a proud moment for Dr L Ansari as fifty years ago, he was College Captain when the school celebrated the centenary year and today he led squad on its Sesquicentennial Year. It was an irresistible moment for the Principal of the school, Mr D A Luke, Mr Julain Luke, Principal, Barnes School, Devlali, Nasik, Mr E S Egbert, Dr Shabi Ahmed, Mr Neil Luke, Mr Arun Jaiswal, Mr Ravindra Datt, and a host of alumni which included judges, bureaucarts, doctors, engineers and corporate leaders as they also joined the squad as an alumni of BHS.

The ceremonial lighting up of the torch was a breath-taking spectacle. The Sports Captain of GHS, Vijeta Jaiswal carried the torch and passed it to the Sports Captain of HTS, Ujjwal Dubey. The honour of lighting the torch went to the Sports Captain of BHS, Ashish Singh. Hereafter the chief guest,  declared the meet open by releasing the balloons. This was followed by the singing of the School Songs by the students of BHS and GHS respectively,.



 

This was followed by a colourful display `Serengeti Spectacle’ showcasing the various animal lives of the region. The `Spectrum’ performed by GHS girls won the applause of the audience. The next to take the field were BHS boys of classes 1 to 5 who displayed the way `Korean’ fans are used in a drilled titled `BHS Fan Club’. The `Karate Kids’ of HTS showcased their mettle and class in a karate exercise.  In a mouth watering display of synchrony `The Peacock Dance’ won the appreciation of each and everyone present. The `Dumbell Drill’ presented by the BHS students of class 9 and 10 stole the hearts of many.

The next on the field were the various pyramids formations presented by the students of BHS, GHS and HTS highlighting the beauty of `A Paradise’ `Lotus’ and `Chariot of Progress’ respectively.

The old boys participated enthusiastically in the various events especially organized for them. It was moment of ecstasy to see the older generation feel so deeply about their Alma Mater.

In his nostalgic address, the chief guest, Lt Gen Rana SK Kapur praised his Alma Mater and owed his success to it. He appealed to the students to give their dreams a larger perspective as it lays down the foundation for a successful career. Applauding the March Past, he promised that he would leave no stone unturned in getting the BHS squad to march on the Republic Day Parade. As a true Armyman, he explained that failures should not bog people down but it should be taken up as a challenge till success is achieved.

The notable dignitories who were present on this occasion were Justice Dilip Gupta, Justice Rakesh Tewari, Mr Shyam Mehrotra, DIG, ITBP, Mrs Ptiti Kumar, wife of district magistrate, Alok Kumar, Rev G Daud, Rev Steven Belton, Mr K. V.Vincent,Principal,Huddard High School, Kanpur,  Mr J Luke, Principal, Barnes School, Devlali, Mr A K Das, Mr R K Srivastava, Mr Jefferson Gardner, Mr Winston Gardner, Mr Julian Gardner, Mrs J Luke, and a host of others. 

Earlier, the Principal of BHS, Mr D A Luke welcomed the chief and the dignitories present on the occasion. The function came to a close with a vote of thanks by Mrs C.B.Luke, Convener of the Sesquicentennial Year Celebration.

The laser show highlighting the progress of BHS and GHS won the hearts of the audience. The entire sky was covered with all possible colours as the fire crackers went up in the air.
