Spectacular and scintillating display by the athletes in field and track events, Mass PT, drill giving tribute to the valiant soldiers, pyramids, colourful March Past and gala fireworks marked the closing ceremony of the Sesquicentennial (150) year of Boys’ High School (BHS) and College on Saturday evening. The chief guest on this occasion was the Chairman of the Allahabad High School Society (AHSS), Rt. Rev. Morris Edgar Dan, Bishop, Diocese of Lucknow, Church of North India (CNI).
At the outset, the Principal, Mr D. A. Luke warmly welcomed the Bishop and the first lady of the Diocese, Mrs Isabella Dan and extended his deepest gratitude for their support and guidance in furthering the cause of education. The programme commenced with the opening prayer by Rev. G. Daud, Presbyter, All Saints’ Cathedral.
The field tremored as the athletes of the four Houses namely St. Andrews (Blue) House, St. Patrick’s (Green) House, St. Peters (Yellow) House, St Georges (Red) House marched in unison and synchronization. The march past was led by the Sports Captain, Avneesh Tiwari. The Sports Captain took oath on behalf of the athletes to take part in the events with the true sportsmanship and a desire to bring pray to the school. This was followed by the breath- taking spectacle of the ceremonial lighting up of the torch. In the marching event, Red in the senior category and Green House in the junior category marched away with the cake.
The colourful races and drills organized to mark this momentous occasion won the hearts of the audience. The tiny tots of Nursery 1 and 2 stole everyone’s heart through their display titled `Papillon’. The students of class 3, 4 and 5 performed the Kungfu Panda drill which was deeply appreciated. PT display by class 9 titled `A tribute to the Indian soldiers’ was widely applauded. The shadow of love was beautifully choreographed by students of classes 6, 7 and 8 signifying love, peace and harmony.
The next on the field were the pyramid formation by the four Houses giving the message to `Save Mother Earth’ and `Go Green’. The mettle and class was amply evident in the track and field events in a highly charged atmosphere, it was the Blue House (417 points) which won the prestigious Athletic Shield while Green House (329 points) was the runners up. Yellow House with 300 points and Red House with 185 points came third and fourth respectively.
In his address the chief guest, Rt. Rev Morris Edgar Dan extended his heartfelt greetings to the staff and children of the school on this great occasion and congratulated them for putting up a wonderful performance. He prayed to the Almighty to bless the institution so that it may continue to serve the society with great zeal. The prizes were distributed by the First Lady of the Diocese, Mrs Isabella Dan. In the end, Mr. H. R. Mall, secretary of the AHSS proposed a vote thanks followed by benediction by the Bishop Rt Rev M. E. Dan, in which he prayed to the Almighty to bless this institution.
