Apart from academics, games, sports and other co-curricular activities form an integral part of the school curriculum. Adhering to that, the worm of Nov. 30, 2007 another day full of events on the premises of the Boys' High School and College. The teachers and students enthusiastically gathered on the field to witness and participate in the much keenly awaited event— The Annual Sports Day.
This year too, the traditional fervour and enthusiasm was at its peak. The coloured hues of the prodigious event made every soul of the school soar the excited students stormed into he enclosures much before the spectacle could commence on the grand field. The grandeur of the colourful canopy and chairs with the pirze table adorned with medals and shields was breath-taking to look at. Mr. VPK Solomon, our PT teacher celebrated 25 years in office on this most auspicious day. We, at BHS, are extremely proud of his contribution and feel honoured to have him organise 25 memorable Annual Sports at BHS. The camps thundered with applause as the day's events began with the march past. The effect of months of practice was evident on the marching squads as every spectator was enthralled in watching them showing rhythmically to the drum beats. It was the Blue and the Green House in the senior category who marched away with the coveted marching cakes. The Yellow House was the leader in the junior category. The Yellow House was the runners up in the senior category while the Blue House and the Green House had to content themselves with the second and the third prizes respectively among the juniors. This was followed by special races held for the tiny tots of classes I, II and III. The dwarves of class I D were delighted as their Snow White was judged the fairest by the "Mirror on the Wall". The 40 thieves of class II D were the first to take off with Ali Baba to their chief along with the booty! It was indeed a delight to watch the Lilliputians of class III striving hard to help Gulliver escape. The Busy Bodies by class I and II and the 'Beach Carnival' by class III, IV and V stole the show. After this, it was time to put the athletes against each other for the ultimate test of their abilities. All eyes were riveted on the runners as the track and field events were initiated. With the crack of the pistol, Naresh Singh Rajput was lightning quick in clinching the first prize in 100 mts. "O" Division. Shariq Ali Khan of the Green House finished first in the 100 mts. "A" Division. Aman Ullah, Rishikesh Singh and Rishabh Sen were the best athletes in the "B", "C" and "D" Division respectively. This was followed by the 200 mts. dash. The best time wsa for Vishal Sahu of the Red House in the "O" Division who finished first in the race. Every finish was a photo finish and brought loud cheers and applause from the students. We can always depend on the participants of the Mass-Drills to come up with something new and innovative. This year too, the boys astounded everyone with their co-ordination. Each movement had been synchronised to perfection. While the boys of classes I and II demonstrated the best way to remove boredom, classes III, IV and V put up an excellent PT display titled 'The Beach Carnival.' Class VI boys presented the 'Ribbon Drill' synchronised excellently to the beat of some old classics. the "Mass PT" by classes VII and VIII brought laurels for he school. The tug-o-war final was a battle for supremacy of strength between the Red House and Green House in the "O" Division and the Blue House and the Green House in the "A" Division. The Green House dominated the scene with superior co-ordination in both the categories the camps resounded with cheers for all who participated keeping up the true spirit of sportsmanship. As the events of the day drew to a close, 4´100 mts. inter-house relays enraptured everyone and compelled them to cheer their hearts out. Upholding he tradition, the Past vs Present 4´100 mts. relays saw the 'grey' BHS stalwarts accept the challenge at the hands of the "Present". The "Present" team established its supremacy in a neck and neck fight. With spirits cooling down and physiques getting weary, the sports meet advanced towards its close with the marching squads gathering again under their colours for the Prize Distribution. Our Principal, Mr. CV Innes gave away the prizes. The score tally declared the Yellow House as the champion with 178 points. The Green, Red and Blue Houses had to satiate themselves with second, third and fourth position respectively. Finally, the Principal, Mr. CV Innes expressed his appreciation for the excellent show put up by the students and stressed the importance of participating rather than winning. "Three cheers for BHS" broke the silence, letting the echo reverberate in the hearts and minds of all and seeadry watching. Thus concluded another Sports Day, giving us all unforgettable memories. |
