If you think you can win, you can win. Faith is necessary to victory. —William Hazlitt "The ultimate trophy in the world is that of a good human being who could bring cheer, love and hope into the lives of others and build India of our dreams." Said Rev. Dr. Valson Thampu, Principal, St. Stephen's College, New Delhi, at the Annual Prize Day Function of the Boys' High School and College, held on Nov 17th, 2007. Rev. Dr. Valson Thampu, the chief guest for the occasion, addressed a jam-packed gathering at the Flynn Hall of our institution, where all had gathered o honour the efforts of over 270 students throughout he academic year 2006-07, who had achieved success in various curricular and extra-curricular activities. The Function commenced with the chief guest Dr. Thampu Receiving the guest of honour and inspecting and impressive ceremonial drill by the NCC cadets of our school, followed by his introduction o the color holders and various staff members. Our Principal, Mr. C.V. Innes welcomed the chief guest and also said that in the recent past, he had observed that while children achieved more mastery over academics and sports, they seemed to have less and less self control, self confidence and emotional stamina. There was an acute lack of ability to deal with personal problems, disappointments and setbacks. The need of the hour is that all parents, teachers and adults that influence young minds and lives must resolve to put 'emotional needs' of children as 'their top priority' area of work - giving quality time, good teaching environment and guidance. Speaking on this occasion, the Bishop of Lucknow, Church of North India, Rt. Rev. A. R. Stephen congratulated the prize winners and also wished them the very best for their future endeavours. In his address, the chief guest, Dr Walson Thampu said that it was he prime duty of parents to ensure that their child grew in a conducive environment in the right perspective. Winning of trophies and certificates would be meaningless if they fail to develop human virtues. He remarked, "Learning is a great legacy. The philosopher would say, it is discovering oneself through the world one and using that reality to overcome oneself or literate one's soul." While congratulating the prize winners, he boosted the morale of those who had failed to make their mark. He added that in every child lay dormant talents and if he was not recognised today, he would surely be recognised one day. The distribution of prizes was jointly conducted by Junior School Head, Mrs. R. Rodrigues; Middle School Head, Mr. L. French; and Senior School Head, Mr. V. Massey. The prizes, trophies and shields were presented to the students by Dr. Valson Thampu, Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Thampu and Bhishop A. R. Stephen.
