The 65th Independence Day was celebrated with much fanfare and gaiety at the Boys’ High School (BHS) and College on Monday. The school campus was aesthetically decorated for the first time ever, with the national tricolour flags. The Chief Guest on this occasion was Prof Yogeshwar Tewari of the Department of Medieval and Modern History, University of Allahabad. On his arrival, he was warmly received by the Principal, Mr David Luke and the staff members.
The celebrations started with the unfurling of the National Flag followed by the salute by the NCC cadets and scouts and the singing of the National Anthem and recitation of the school pledge.
On this auspicious occasion, various patriotic songs were presented by the students of BHS and its annexe, Holy Trinity School engulfing the entire atmosphere into a strong feeling of patriotism.
Amal David of XII A and Sushrut Gopesh of XII B delivered speeches in English and Hindi respectively. Both the speakers emphasized the sacrifices made by our forefathers to achieve freedom. They also unitedly stated that today our country needs honest, hard working, dedicated workers, leaders and teachers to show the light to our better tomorrow.
Speaking on this occasion, the chief guest, Prof Yogeshwar Tewari called upon the students to uphold the values of our freedom fighters. He also advised the students to be good human beings, honest, committed and dedicated in the tasks that lie ahead of them.
Earlier, the Principal, Mr David Luke welcomed the chief guest. In a short speech, he said that Prof Yogeshwar Tewari is a distinguished teacher of the Allahabad University in the Department of Medieval and Modern History. He has been a Commonwealth Scholar and has also studied at London University and has attained the highest degree in his field. The function was conducted by Mr L French. The day came to a close with a benediction by Rev Webster James. |
