The Governing Body of the Allahabad High School Society (AHSS) organized a grand function in the Flynn Hall of the Boys’ High School (BHS) and College on Friday to felicitate its Chairman, Rt Rev Morris Edgar Dan, Bishop, Diocese of Lucknow, Church of North India (CNI) and the first lady of the Diocese, Mrs Isabella Dan.
The function began with an opening prayer by Rev Gabriel Daud, Presbyter, All Saints’ Cathedral. Thereafter, Dr SD Chand, former principal of Ewing Christian College (ECC) and secretary of Diocesan Education Board (DEB) welcomed the Bishop on behalf of the Governing Body of AHSS.
In his nostalgic address, the chief guest, Rt Rev Morris Edgar Dan said that his favourite institution, Boys’ High School and College has come into the fold of the Diocese of Lucknow. He said that men of wisdom are there to guide and take this institutions to greater heights of glory.
He said that the previous principal had made certain amendments in the AHSS which changed the entire character, letter and spirit of the constitution of the society. After one and a half years of legal battle, we won the case by defeating our adversary in every quarter.
He exhorted the teachers to work with devotion and dedication and to take this institution to unimaginable heights.
Earlier, in his short address, Dr SD Chand recalled the tumultuous period and thanked the Bishop for his perseverance, steadfast support and vision which made this day possible.
He said that a couple of members clandestinely tried to hijack the AHSS by amending the constitution of the society for their own personal interests. However, they under-estimated the fortitude and determination and courage of the Bishop who is also the chairman of the AHSS, who fought the legal battle and defeated his adversaries.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr Francis Moore, former MLA and zonal president of ISC Schools of UP and Uttarakhand said, “its like home coming” and added “I used to play Inter School matches and have taught here during my training period.”
The function came to an end with a vote of thanks by the principal, Mr David Luke who emotionally said: “As a genuine old boy, then as a teacher of my Alma Mater and by the grace of God Almighty, now a Principal of this institution”, humbly thanked the Bishop for his implicit faith in him to carry the legacy of this institution to the pinnacle of glory.
