Exhilaration and excitement can hardly be fathomed as smiles galore brightened the faces of nearly 250 children of class 1 to 12 as they were awarded prizes for excellence in academics and non-academic spheres at the annual prize day function held in the Flynn Hall of the Boys’ High School (BHS) and College here. But finally it was the Blue House which stole a march on all of them by walking away with the prestigious Cock House Shield.
Addressing the jam-packed gathering, the chief guest, Mr Dilip Trivedi, Additional Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh remiscenced his days as a student and advised the youths to pursue their dreams and aspirations with full vigour and zeal to achieve success in their lives. The world is open for you and opportunities are galore where one can achieve excellence. He called upon the students to improve your skills and talents through hard work to bring name, fame and glory for their country.
He added that today’s environment of competitiveness is becoming an impediment to happiness and encouraged the students not to be bogged down by the trivialities of day to day life but to understand their calling and work towards its fulfillment. He congratulated the parents and teachers alike for their dedication and sincerity towards the cause of the society.
Mr CV Innes, MLA and Principal of the Boys’ High School and College welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries for gracing the occasion and said that it was the prime duty of parents to ensure that their child grew in a conducive environment in the right perspective.
He congratulated the prize winners and acknowledged the hard work of the parents and mother’s in particular for nurturing their young ones to become bright, responsible and disciplined children. He advised the parents to encourage and motivate their wards to fully exploit their hidden talents and help them develop holistically. He said that it is of utmost importance that besides academics, the students should participate in games and sports for the overall development of their personality.
The chairman of the Allahabad High School Society (AHSS) Col (Retd) John Taylor, former chairman of AHSS, Rt. Rev AR Stephen, Heasmistress of Holy Trinity School, Mrs D Innes and Principal of St John’s Academy, Mrs Shilpi Innes besides others attended the function. The function began with a prayer by Mr C Menezes, while Mr V Massey, Head, College Section, introduced the chief guest and conducted the function.
The prizes and trophies that were presented by the chief guest, Mr Dilip Trivedi were as follows: AK Das Medal to ISC topper: Arpit Gupta; ICSE toppers: Shreyas Verma and Shubham Singh; Best Athlete: Nitesh Kumar; Tresham Medal for Best Boy: Samarth Singh Chauhan; Tresham Medal for Mathematics: Sankalp Gupta; Principal’s Medal for ISC Topper in Commerce: Rishabh Prakash; Major General Rana Kapoor Trophy for Best Sportsman: Nitesh Kumar; Lt Shrijeet Das Memorial Cup for Best All Rounder in College Section: Shubham Agarwal; Major General AJB Jaini’s Trophy for the Best All Rounder in the Middle School: Anant Chandra. NCC Senior Division---Best Cadet: Arpit Shukla; Best Turnout: Syed Suroor Abbas Rizvi; Second Best Social Service: Shivam Jaiswal; NCC Junior Division---Best Cadet: Amarnath Dixit, Best Social Service: Ahmed W. Usmani; Best Marksmanship: Ansh D. Ghosh; Best Turnout: Vidhata Shukla.
The other prizes were—Study Shield: Red House; Football Shield: jointly to Blue and Yellow House; Cricket Shield: jointly to Green and Yellow House; Boxing Shield: Blue House; Basketball Shield: Green House; Athletic Shield: Red House; Cock House Shield: Blue House; Badminton Shield: Blue House. The prize distribution was conducted by Junior School head, Mrs. R Rodrigues, Middle School head, Mr.C Menezes, and Senior School head, Mr. V. Massey. The function concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
