The national tricolor flag was hoisted on the occasion of the 64th Independence Day at the Boys’ High School (BHS) and College here on Sunday. The day was celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm. Students and teachers actively participated in the celebrations.

 


In the absence of the Principal of the school, Mr CV Innes, the national flag was unfurled by Col J Taylor, manager of the BHS, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.

 


Saif Mohammad Khan of class XII D and Sambhav Pande of class XI C delivered speeches in English and Hindi respectively in which they recalled the sacrifices of the freedom fighters.


Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest, Col (Retd) J Taylor emphasized that the need of quality education is indispensable for the progress of the nation. He called upon the youths to rise above their petty differences in terms of caste, creed and religion and to contribute their services in the true spirit of nationalism to make India a strong and vibrant nation.


The choir of BHS and HTS presented melodious patriotic songs in English and Hindi. The function came to end with a prayer and blessing by Mr C Menezes.
