A feeling of patriotism filled the air as the national flag was unfurled at the Boys’ High School (BHS) and College, by the Principal, Mr CV Innes, on the occasion of the 61st Republic Day, on Tuesday. This was followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Patriotic songs rendered by the choirs of the BHS and Holy Trinity School (HTS) added to the mood of the morning.
Addressing the gathering, Mr CV Innes remarked: “Honesty, integrity, security and progress is endorsed and justified by a feeling of gratitude for the blessings we enjoy and reminded us of the great struggle and sacrifices of our great leaders that went into shaping India as a sovereign, socialist, democratic republic.” He asked the students to love the nation and play a progressive role in combating poverty and other social malaise. He further stated that the teaching community should take up the cudgels to acquaint the students with this great legacy that has come about with great sacrifices. In the end, the principal, Mr Innes made a fervent appeal to the younger generations to shed the garb of hypocrisy, develop values in life and love the nation by working for its progress with a positive attitude. Earlier, Daniel Menezes and Manu Mishra delivered speeches in English and Hindi respectively. The function was conducted by Mr L French.
