The day of the investiture ceremony was the best day of my school life when I was appointed the captain of Boys' High School and College, the most prestigious institution of Allahabad.
Ascending up the stage of Flynn Hall, realising the tremendous responsibilities I was entrusted with, I received the badge with much dignity and honour. Discipline is an essential element required for the success of any institution. With this recognition we forged ahead with plenteous effort to keep the school flag soaring high above others. So maintain a balance between academic accomplishments and social development, the school organises a plethora of events to make hidden talents blossom. Throughout the year, form time to time, the students were offered various events in which they showed their skills, these included elocution, football, basketball, badminton. Next on the agenda was the Founder's Day, the much awaited day when we marched to All Saint's Cathedral for the thanks giving service. The same day witnessed the Annual Prize Day. This year we were honoured to have Mr. Thampu as our chief guest. Mr. Tahmpu awarded the students for achievement in academics and sports. This time the Yellow House bagged the football, basketball cup alongwith the cock house shield. The study shield went to the Red House. The next event was the Annual Sport's Day which proved to be entertaining and was a huge success. Sports Day was followed by Alfresco—2007, a cultural and game extravaganza. The motive behind the event of such temperament is to break the monotony of much strenous and pressurized school life. The various teams to participate in the event were Girls' High School and College, St. John's Academy and Holy Trinity School. Everybody including the students and faculty got under hectic preparations to make the fest a memorable one. The school emerged victorious in the competition last day of the Alfresco we also celebrated the Christmas Function which gave birth to an atmosphere of festivity. This year, we were the proud winners of the rotary shield. The most memorable part of the year was when our school was invited by National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwala to send four students to participate in their programme— "Come and live the life of a cadete", and to witness the passing out parade. I was one of the lucky four and got a chance to visit the NDA. We were accompanied by our NCC officer Major S. M. Mustafa. The tour was full of fun as we were trained in boating, rapling, range firing, parasailing, horse riding and rock climbing. The biggest reason for the exceptional year that we had was the profound effort and co-operation of the students alongwith the faculty. I thank our Principal Mr. C. V. Innes, Mr. V. Massey, our College Head, our Cultural Co-ordinator, Mr. A. David and our teachers who guided us. We thank our Alma Mater for preparing us for a competitive life ahead. May this institution progress by leaps and boundle as years pass by. With golden memories we will always look back on our school days with a certain amount of nostalgia. —Achint Kumar Gupta XII B |
